they certainly picked the right location for it! Their wedding at the Highlands Country Club in Garrison, NY, was warm, intimate and full of multiple amusements for everyone.
Jeff and I watched Evelyn make her way down the stairs and out the door to the wedding ceremony on the lawn. She was so beautiful in her mantilla veil and low cut gown!
After the cocktail hour, Evelyn and Matthew joined their guests in the ballroom as they made a grand entrance to, “A Roller Skating Jam Called Saturdays.” They danced in as their guest cheered…and Matthew showed off dance moves he claimed not to have. Pshaw!
There are a lot of reasons why the Highlands is one of our new favorite new Hudson Valley wedding venues. One is the room: the high ceilings and elaborate chandelier, paintings on the walls and two fireplaces on either side of the room. Both were lit for Evelyn and Matthew’s wedding to help everyone fend off the autumn chill.
The ballroom was transformed into country elegance by garden floral arrangements that including pink and peach roses, zinnias and lamb’s ear. Each was beautifully arranged in milk vases Evelyn had gone antiquing for herself!
Evelyn also made adorable acorn napkin holders. The wedding cake had white with black accents and white sugar poppies. Instead of a guest book, the couple asked guests to “leaf” a fingerprint and sign their wedding tree. Evelyn also baked homemade mini-pies for their guests to take home.
Evelyn and Matthew really wanted their guests to have fun, whether on the dance floor, in the tavern or outside on the beautiful grounds. This is what made the Highlands so perfect for them. They moved couches inside to create a lounge area right in front of the fireplace where guests could mingle and enjoy a drink.
In the Tavern, the couple set up the “Fun & Games Room.” A photo montage of Evelyn and Matthew’s pictures was displayed on the wall. Disposable cameras were available with instructions for each: the Funny Face Cam (take a picture of your funniest face), the Kiss Cam (take a picture of yourself kissing the bride or groom) the Who Are You? Cam (take a photo with someone you don’t know) and the Prop Cam—this one came equipped with a box of hats, feather boas and even scuba gear!
Of course, a few of those props made their way out onto the dance floor…
A box of games was also available in the Tavern with a warning that the bride and groom might decide to issue a challenge of Boggle, Scrabble or the like, so they’d better practice!
A tremendous amount of thought and planning went into this wedding and it really paid off. Evelyn and Matthew, it was awesome! Thank you so much for choosing us to be a part of it.
