Katie and Rick were introduced to “September” by Earth, Wind and Fire. Before they shared their first dance together, I had the honor of reading the love letters they had written for each other. (They brought tears to my eyes, they were so sweet!)
Rick wrote about the things he loved most about Katie, including cooking and her explosive temper. Katie used excerpts from the cards she’d given Rick over the years, starting out with a note that he was the “best boyfriend ever” and ending with a letter written on their wedding day, thanking him for the gift of becoming his wife.
Katie’s sister, Lindsay, did a beautiful job singing their first dance song, “The Way I Am.” I love it when couples included their talented family members in the wedding! Everything is twice as moving.
Katie pulled off her ethereal theme masterfully! A silver vase of branches draped with candles stood in the center of each table, and purple leaves and silver acorns were strewn around it. Guests picked up their place cards from mini white pumpkins, and were treated to favors of pies.
The newlyweds dedicated Louis Armstrong’s “La Vie En Rose” to Rick’s grandparents who just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were adorable!
Since the Buffalo Bills won their game that Sunday afternoon, Rick had us play the Bills’ version of “Shout” to celebrate. The energy was non-stop and music ranged from Harry Nilsson’s “Coconut” to “Pride and Joy” by Stevie Ray Vaughn and a duet by Monica and Brandy.
This was one of those weddings when we just didn’t want to stop playing music! They were so much fun to watch.
Katie and Rick, thanks so much for inviting us into your lives to celebrate such and amazing day. You rock!
